Sources confirmed that at least two grenades where thrown at the Matamoros General Hospital, also known as Alfredo Pumarejo.
The grenade attack took place between 8:30 and 9:30 pm Fridayl, which was under guard by the Mexican Military, said a mexican law enforcement official.
Information on the number of people injured or killed by the blast was unknown Friday night. There were no details available if more grenades were thrown but didn't go off
A source with firsthand knowledge of criminal activity said the attack was likely carried out by Zetas in an effort to "calentar la plaza" or stir things up.
The source said the hospital is a valuable target to cartel members because it is one of the places where the military takes those wounded in firefights.
